The paintings of Lisa Mistiuk are done mainly in the style known as ‘alla prima’. This is a technique where the canvas is finished in one session which helps create a very lively response to the subjects she paints. Paint is applied in thick impasto as well as thin washes which makes the painting as visually interesting as the subject itself.

This type of painting allows for the feeling we get when we see something in real life. Instead of a frozen image, the image appears as if it were a fleeting moment in our memory.
